In that case speed does matter to some extent as does the quality of simple typefaces. It seems to be that the Epson is better at this but as I have no real preferences has anyone any actual experience of using either the canon or Epson (890) as a Photo + general purpose printer? I think the Epson will work well for you. In my opinion, my HP 970cse does a better job of general printing than my Epson 870. It's more economical and quieter but they're pretty close on print speed.

That paper is relatively scarce in my area as are the ink tanks. I stuck with the 870 because the consumables, especially the paper, is easily accessible in my area. I prefer to buy my supplies locally so if you're more into ordering online, this isn't a concern for you.

Driver

I like the Epson driver better for it's tweakability. The Canon has a tweakable driver but, unless you change the brightness or intensity, you see very little changes to the print from your adjustment(s). I can't say about the S800 as I've not seen it yet. To the Canon's credit, the separate ink tank system is more economical and is much easier to refill if you're into that.

Seems odd that Canon would not support print sizes beyond 8x10. I'd love to marry the image quality of Epson with the reliability of HP and the support and range of Epson. I had an interesting experience when I was shopping for a wide format printer several months ago. I took a nice close-up picture of a Peace rose in the back yard, copied it onto a floppy disk and made the rounds to the local computer stores here in Northern Virginia to see if I could get them to make comparison prints of my picture on the HP 1220 and the Epson 1270. Most of the places wouldn't even try. They had their demos set up to print something that had been loaded on by HP or Epson and they didn't seem to want to fool with me.

The driver, as depicted on the box, seems to be impressive at guaging contents. Why is this printer so little talked about? I have NO experience with Canon printers. Is there something I don't know?

Hae123, Seems to be working so far after device restart I have had a Canon mx490 printer for over a year now and printing via this app had been very unreliable up till now. Would work for me sometimes but oftentimes the app would not recognize my printer so I could not print over wifi. But I read some reviews here and followed the instruction of a reviewer who said to restart the device and lo and behold, it actually worked! App found my printer right away and I was able to print finally. I guess it remains to be seen if it will continue to work.

However for Christmas I bought myself an iPhone Xr and it seems to confuse the printer and when I print landscape it still goes portrait. This may because of the way the iPhone Xr takes several pictures when you push the button. Even when I select the crop mode and note it’s landscape it’s still printing portrait. I hope the developers heed this and fix whatever is failing. I like to print pictures to my picture printing printer from Canon. I bought this printer because it prints pictures. It even has an extra ink well for printing pictures.
