I recently decided to challenge myself to write a database to help easily decipher and record manufacturing codes for a hobby I am involved with - Vintage BMX Bikes. To say the least I have stumped myself well and truly and am looking for some assistance. Here is my dilemma: I know for certain the meaning of the sequence of the numbers and letters in the stamped serial number but I can't get my head around transforming it to a database! EG: Bike frame stamped 9143D I know that this can be broken down to: 9th month (September), 1981, 43rd in sequence, Welded by Darrell Kendall Frame stamped 501161D Is 5th month (May), 1980, 1161st in sequence, welded by Darrell Kendall There is physical evidence on the frame of the model change so that can be marked in the database. What I really need help to work out is what is the best way to be able to type in the number and character stamped on the frame and have it decoded???

The Pacer was originally meant to be the replacement for the Silver Streak.moving forward it because the Super Streak.which again was dropped and the name Silver Streak returned later on. There's a good read here The VM serialised frames are way before Akisu stated manufacturing the Diamond gussett frames of 1982 onwards and pre-date the original Pro of 1979. I was refering to 1984 the pacer 500(super viper) has a factory team isued frame decale on it. Didnt say anything about 1983 different years bro!
The catalog shows it with no tab though. But wouldn’t surprise me if some had them. The welds at the front and on the forks should be perfect. The Viper for 1984 was a looptail but mild steel, even the forks. The catalog shows it with chaingaurd tabs.

Frame has a Ding or two on top tube as shown in pics.there is a small one on bottom tube in decal. That's pretty much the worst of it.and a pad would cover the top!

I put in the last 2 x's in place of the numbers. Someone told me if it has the washer on the brake bridge, it's a Silver Streak and the Med Pro's didn't have the washer. Is that true? Is this frame chrome-moly, and what year is it? Is the plating chrome or nickel? I weighed it on the mail scale and it is just a hair over 4 lbs stripped, except for the headset and bottom bracket cups that are still in it.
The baseball stamp on a frame means it's GOOD quality Japanese 1980's product & I'm pretty sure Koizumi did not just limit their production of things to BMX frames either, it was/is a _big_ manufacturing facility. Update on the forks: They have 1/2-inch dropouts, I found out when I tried to put a 3/8' axle in them.
